D207's Best for Academic Achievement - Richa Shah
From all accounts, Richa Shah is an extraordinary student and solid human being. She has a positive outlook on life, takes a proactive stance in engaging in experiences to enhance her education, and expects to achieve through her own efforts. There is absolutely no doubt in anyone’s mind that Richa will continue to achieve in whatever she chooses to pursue. We are extremely proud of her accomplishments and proud to recognize her as one of “207’s Best”!



WORLD LANGUAGES:

 Maine East is proud to offer the opportunity for senior students to earn a Seal of Biliteracy.  In order to meet the Seal of Biliteracy standard, students must prove proficiency in English AND prove proficiency in one or more other languages based on state approved tests.

FINE ARTS:


SHREK - The Musical

You are invited to join us for a performance of this year’s musical, SHREK. Performances are Friday and Saturday, February 23 & 24 and March 2 & 3 at 7:30 PM.  Tickets may be purchased for $10.00 each.  Please contact Lisa Disparte in the Fine Arts Department (847) 692-8500, or use this FORM to reserve tickets.

DEMON SQUAD:

 The Maine East POMS finished their competitive season with a bang-winning the IDTA State Championship title for the 3A Jazz Division! Led by captains Joselle and Aleks, and fellow senior Parisa, the small team of seven knocked out the other 8 competitors in the category. Captain Joselle Portillo advanced to the finals for the solo portion after beating out 54 other solo competitors, and finished 4th in the state for Miss IDTA. To round off her senior year, Joselle was awarded a $500 IDTA college scholarship.

 Congratulation to the Demon Squad for their fabulous season! If you love to dance, keep and eye out for future tryout flyers. 


SCREENAGERS
We are excited to present SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age, a documentary about one of the biggest parenting issues of our time. SCREENAGERS addresses one of the most pervasive parenting issues of our time head on—depicting teen struggles over social media, video games, and internet addiction. The film empowers kids to best navigate the digital world and provides practical resources to help them do it.  The film looks at the impact of the digital age on teens and how to help families minimize harmful effects and find balance.  

The film will be shown on March 13th, 2018 at 6:30 pm in the auditorium and is open to all District 207 families to attend.  

Seats will be reserved on a first come fist served basis and can be reserved by clicking on the following link obtain tickets:

 DISTRICT 207'S BEST - JANUARY:
Andreas Kotsifas - 207's Best for Improved Performance

 Andreas Kotsifas is a talented, well rounded young man who has shown tremendous personal and academic growth over the past two and half years. His ability to adapt and lead have clearly made an impact on our school and appear to be paving the way for future achievement and success for him. We are proud to recognize him as one of 207’s Best!

WORLD LANGUAGES:

The World Language Department now has a World Language Peer Tutoring Program!

Daniel Ortigoza is ready to help!

 Students are available to help fellow students with their language learning during their free periods. This may include but is not limited to vocabulary practice, review of grammatical structures, review for summatives or finals.  

We encourage our language students to be proactive and take advantage of the help, if needed!
Students should see Mrs. Campisciano Ungaro in Rm 324 if they have any questions.

DANCE:

On Thursday January 25th, a professional Hip Hop Dancer and Instructor from the Dance Company The Puzzle League​, came to Maine East to teach Hip Hop to the students enrolled in Dance this semester. The students had the opportunity to learn under a Master Hip Hop artist. 



The Dance students this semester are kicking off a KINDNESS initiative. You should expect to see acts of kindness and compassion from the students, in and out of the classroom. The actions of kindness are student inspired and followed through in their cooperative learning groups.

This Semester's Dance Showcase is Monday April 30th-held in the MEHS auditorium, 10:30-12:00. 


ENGLISH:
On December 9, 2017, the Maine East Slam Team won the "Louder than a Lawnmower" slam competition here at MEHS!  The contest involved ten teams from the Chicago suburbs, and our poets took top honors for the day.  Congratulations to all team members and to their coaches, Eric Coval and Nicole Beyers!  In the next few weeks, the team will be participating in Louder Than a Bomb contests, so come out and support them!  A good match to see will be at 10 am on Saturday, March 3rd, at Columbia College.

In Wordwright's December 2017 challenge, a Maine East junior, Mariam Kane, earned a perfect score, placing among the 34 top-scoring juniors in the country!  We also had two juniors (Krystian Kuprowski and Evan Weiss) and two seniors (Laura Pokorski and Michael Righi) at near perfect, with just one question wrong on the test.  For those who are not familiar with the contest, Wordwright is a national literary analysis competition in which students answer very challenging questions about a text's meaning and style.  In the December meet, over 65,000 students entered the contest nationally.  Please congratulate all these students when you see them, as well as their teachers: Mr. Brown, Mr. Lundberg, Ms. Lee-Chin, and Mr. Hessert!  And thanks to everyone who participated in this formidable event.

Maine East English classes are in the midst of Poetry Out Loud, a national poetry recitation contest supported by The Poetry Foundation.  Each participating English class will send one student winner to the school-wide contest, which will be held on Monday, February 12th in room 230 from 6-8 pm.  Please come out and cheer for Maine East's top performers!


SUMMER SCHOOL:

The summer program at Maine Township High School District 207 encompasses both academic and non-academic areas. Summer session courses taken for credit are acceptable toward graduation. This brochure  includes a complete listing of all courses offered within District 207. Classes are offered at all three campuses UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. 

This brochure includes course descriptions for Career Exploration Camps (held at Oakton Community College), co-sponsored by NSERVE (North Suburban Educational Region for Vocational Education) and ETC (Education to Careers).
